Bollywood Vs Danza!
When I finally get the chance to, you'll get very entertaining updates soon from the past couple of very very very busy months. I have over 12 image intensive posts that are lining up to be posted here so check back in constantly to see if there are updates! But for now, back over on the 6th of April... my gosh.. that was over 4 months ago since I've last updated my blog.. *whoa!!* I had the honor and experience to be part of my very own dance competition!
One of my corporates who I teach dance to had decided to make good their lessons by culminating their efforts with a dance-off in a internally viewed audience judged performance show called "So you think you can't dance?!".
It was a very entertaining duel between the Bollywood team and the Danza team which I was so very proud of being given the honor and opportunity to choreograph and instruct.
A total of 4 dance sets, 2 Bollywood tracks by the other team and 2 tracks by the Danza team. We chose the "Waka Waka" and "The Time" to present in the short segment. And Boy! Was I proud as hell when my teams hit the stage... full of smiling faces, fully rehearsed confident moves that were filled with energy.. I was one beaming proud "mama" indeed.... I could not stop smiling... my heart was bursting with pride...
And a team of 3 judges, including myself to comment on the performances as they were rolled out made the afternoon even more exciting as we attempted to be our homegrown Simon, Randy & J-Lo judges and all I took the opportunity to root & rally the ladies as they listened & paced about nervously behind stage...
Somewhere towards the end of all the performances, the organiser gathered the audience up to stand and join in a dance number with the dance students and we all did some simple dance moves on stage for some crowd interaction and that was fun indeed... I was impressed at how elaborate they had made their contest, even if it was an internal challenge within their organization itself.. and I was so pleased to be part of it... and what was even more impressive was the table of trophies that everyone left with... everyone who participated was a winner and there were 2 special prizes too!
Trophies for all the participants that day, Bollywood and Danza and 2 special trophies. One for Best Dressed and One for Best dancer from each class... when these prizes were given out, the cheers and hoots for the winners were priceless...
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your instructor... keep happy, keep fit and stay healthy. Dance on!!!

Zumba Fitness Launch at the AC!
Finally after close to a year instructing various classes at the American Club Singapore. We finally get licensed for ZUMBA FITNESS! and officially I get to start donning my Zumbawear with much pride n happiness.
We had an awesome launch party on the 6th of May and 40 other ladies *some not present in this group shot* rocked the Dance floor as Rhomeiny in Orange (my team teach partner for the morning & other Zumba Fitness instructor teaching at the AC). It was a crazy high energy rockin' booty shakin' morning with everyone who attended complete with discoball n spotlight that was specially installed for the launch party.
Rhomeiny is a pretty fantastic Zumba instructor! And it was an honour launching the program at the club together with him. We sizzled the dance floor with the crowd and everyone later adjourned for some complimentary protein juice shakes, cakes, strawberries with cream, viet rolls and vegetables n dips as we mingled in the aftermath of a great class..
So much was the energy output that morning that it had me flat out for the rest of the day! My legs were jelly and I had to reschedule classes and personal training clients while I took the time to rest and get my legs rubbed back to life at the foot reflexologist.... Hahahah!! BUT... it was all worth it as the launch went fantastic! More Zumba to come people!! Check out the Lifestyles schedule at that club if you are a member there for class timings with either Rhomeiny who is taking over my Friday morning slot or with me on Sunday or Monday afternoons. :) Unfortunately however, you can only attend if you are an AC member or if a member signs you in and helps you pay for your class.
If you're keen on taking Zumba with me, click on that link you see on the left column here on my blog for more details on my publicly available class at the Raffles Town Club. Yep, that big Zumba circle thing on the top left... yep! That one.. click on it.. :) ZUMBA! ZUMBA!! ZUMBA!!!

Trekking Up Mount Faber...
As part of my personal training program to incorporate a more active lifestyle into the mindset and lives of all my clients, one of my dearest client and I set out on a trek up Mount Faber on Sunday. Our day started at 7am where we were deposited by cab at the base of Mount Faber Road. Map can be found HERE. We started at where the Taxi A image on the farthest right of the map and made our way up the slopes at a steady pace.
We walked up and down the slopes, enjoyed the scenery and the fresh air that was devoid of much toxic traffic fumes that we usually inhale... Armed with our haversacks filled with the necessary fluids for the day, a change of clothes and with me the necessary first aid kit.
We were delighted as we reached the top and referred to the map and realised that as we journeyed around the area, that we had completed all of the walks and crossed bridges that were on the trail.
From going up Faber Walk to the Canopy Walk to going along the Marang Trail, crossing the Henderson Waves Bridge, climbing up the Hilltop Walk stairways, trekking along the Forest Walk and crossing over the Alexandra Arch and eventually reaching the Floral walk @ the Hort Park.
It took us a total of 3 hours to walk throughout all those trails with the occasional stops to enjoy the scenery, drink water and to explore what signs they had placed up along the way.
Doing a walk so early in the morning was extremely refreshing with the morning dew on the plants still cool and dripping off the leaves around us. The air was breezy and crisp and the sun was not beating its rays at us in attempt to fry us alive. Our trek eventually ended at the Hort Park where we enjoyed a brisk walk through the flowers, enjoyed exploring the many unique plants they were cultivating at their experimental greenhouses and watching the fish as they meandered about in the Koi ponds within the park itself.
It was an extremely satisfying and enjoyable morning and I'm looking forward to our next trek next month for more outdoor adventures. On our list right now for the next couple of trips out would be jogging through the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Sentosa, Pulau Ubin, Mandai-Bukit Timah Hill and exploring the Kampung Buangkok Estate.Any more suggestions on trails to explore would be appreciated.. meanwhile.. onwards towards a more active lifestyle!! Good Morning Singapore!!!

Fresh from the Oven! More Group Aerobic Instructors to get you all Hot & Sweaty!
For those who did not know, I am one of the key module trainers and also one of the examining assessors for the Group Aerobic Practical examinations at the FISAF Group Aerobic Instructor Course. The latest batch of newly trained Aerobic instructors was one that I hold dear. With two of my closer dance girlfriends and co-Zumba instructors taking this module, Esther and Zuri. I held high hopes for them to train well and pass with flying colours and flying colours they did have. It was several days of some highs and lows with self esteem and nerves hitting the best of them but never did any of them give up. And with that, my heart shines proud for each individual...
It was also somewhat truely terrifying for me this time as I needed to be impartial and fair to all without putting in the biasness of friendship into play while in training and assessment. It was a test of professionalism too where as much as I wanted my closest to bloom, I recognised the need to groom each and every single one with the same fairness and attention.
This cosy group in particular had great chemistry with great characters and while we will all try to keep in contact. I will name everyone here so if someone here "disappears", we will still be able to "facebook"them and hunt them down.
(From Left to Right: Lennard (Enghwa Lim - Mr Latin Ballroom Dancer), Diane Haslam (FISAF Master Trainer), Serene Yee (Miss KickBoxing Queen), Pamela Sim (me), Esther Lim (Zumba Mama), Christina (Mdm Pilates), Diana (Ms. Hi-Lo), Choy Pek Gan (Miss High Impact), Matt Chung (The Sweetie From Hong Kong) and Zuri Kurmaly (Zumba Mama II).
Everyone put in alot of effort but I would also say that each of them are still raw diamonds. But Diamonds nonetheless. With enough polishing and a little time, each will shine with their own brilliance and style. I look forward to attending each and every one of their classes in the time to come so meanwhile, Congratulations! I'm proud of all of you!
Till December 2010, I will be in training for my 3rd Age (Working with Seniors) Instructor Certification, I know some of you will be back for that so I'll see you then! :) So till I see you again! 4 - 3 - 2 - GRAPEVINE Right! :)

11 years and counting...
That was us 14 years ago in 1996... and yesterday 14th of August marked our 11th Wedding Anniversary... I was in my teens in secondary school back then and he was in his early 20s in Ngee Ann Poly doing his diploma..Married when I hit 21 years old, 2 kids later.. several career changes, several car changes and residential changes.. here we are today... on the way to dinner for the evening... Happy Anniversary Dah! I look back into the photos and see me with the same smile and him with his quirky photoshots thats never changed over the years so far... I wonder how we would look 11 years from now!
And when we reached our dinner location early, we lounged about for abit before we checked in for our dinner reservation... meanwhile... CJ took some pictures of me with his phone and I liked this one...
Oh.. and I recieved one of the sweetest client testimonials for a dance workshop I did last week today via email that really made my day too..."We were swept off our feet, literally, by Pamela's vivacity and vitality. Her spontaneity and casual demeanour was simply, contagious. She was 'pitch-perfect' and even a participant who had trouble telling his left from his right and his front from his back, was up grooving to the beat. The experience was made even more special as she came replete with constumes and gears to bring the fire back to the floor. Everyone felt comfortable to shake their stuff without feeling self-conscious. BTW, excellent choice of music, Pam! Keep up the good work and thank you for bringing back the passion in dancing!!"
Now thats a testimonial for keeps! :) Moving forward... time will tell what exciting things will be in store... watch this space.. :)

New Hair & Updates!
Yep! I hacked off around 14 inches off my hair so I have a shaggy crop now as opposed to hip length wavy locks.. some people were horrified to find out I wacked off so much hair but I didn't cut it THAT short. Excuse the non make-up shot but at least the hair was tame? :)Other than that, I've been busy lately undergoing CPR and AED training with my girlfriends so I'm also additionally CPR/AED certified. Yayness for that! I hope I never have to use what we trained for but I'm pleased that I'm now "operationally ready" if there is a crisis.
On top of that, I've started a new batch of AquaFit and DanzaFit aka DanzaLatina at Raffles Town Club, interested public participants CAN STILL register right now to join the classes on Saturdays at a pro-rated rate. It is club policy to allow only ONE pro-rated batch for first time applicants so you can join me from next week onwards pro-rated if you are keen on joining a workout class. More details on what those classes are and how to register can be found HERE.
I have to mention too though, the club is LOVELY.. like seriously plush. I could stay in their lush changing rooms for the longest time... ice-water, lockers and towels are available. Their pool is lovely - kids will LOVE the water slides. And you can go eat at the cafe after your workout too which offers pretty good set lunches or buffets too at a reasonable estimate of $10-15 per person per ala-carte dish or set. Check out their promotions and buffet offers.
And I'm thankful to some of the lovely ladies who have joined me yesterday who promptly sent me their comments last night and mentioned that I should put it up on my blog.. Awww I feel so touched la!! Thank you... here goes.. :)
AquaFit - "You were awesome I enjoyed your class and you have good PR skills, you did a wonderful job for the aqua class and I know you can go further than this. I got back from home and was telling my husband about you and the fun I had. Also so sweet of you to sent us to the lift lobby. Well done keep it up."
DanzaLatina - "I truly enjoyed the class today. Not a dull moment and I sweat a bucket. You are so full of energy. Love it and looking forward to next lesson."
And sometimes I reflect back and am pleased that I do what I do to be able to share what I love and have others benefit too. :) Thank you for working out with me and I'll see you all again soon...

DanzaFit & AquaFit Classes!
I have AquaFit class on Saturday mornings at the Raffles Town Club at 1015am - 1115am. (Resuming 25th September 2010 after the pool upgrading works are completed) Rates are $140 for members and $150 for public for 10 consecutive sessions. Single trial session at $18. Please note that the prevailing GST rates applies.
Total: $160.50
AquaFit is an aqua aerobic program where I work with aqua noodles and shallow water resistance for a low impact cardio workout in the swimming pool. You do not have to know how to swim to participate in this class as the water is at chest level but it would help if you do not completely have water phobia/fear. The class would incorporate some cardio workout, resistance work, possibly some dancing, games and water therapy.
The image above are my aqua equipment that I work with, Aqua Noodles and Balls. The nice thing about it here is that all participants are allowed to access towel and lush shower facilities at the club post workout. They really have LOVELY LOVELY locker and shower facilities and you can eat at the Cafe after class too!
20% of my public participants who drive can also be eligible for carpark passes to park directly at the club too so if you drive, let me know if I have any more available carpark passes. Otherwise, the club is easily accessible via public transport. It is located near town. Map to club can be found HERE.
Both classes are suitable for ages from teens and up. This AquaFit class is not a rehabilitative class for those recovering from or with injuries or a pre-natal class but for a lower impact workout to those of regular fitness levels who prefer a change or addition to their exercise routine.
I will need all registrations reverted to me asap so please help me spread the word! :) For anyone interested in either DanzaFit or AquaFit or both at the above location and times. Please email me at honeymeow@gmail.com for registration forms.
*FAQ: Do note that DanzaFit is NOT Zumba. It is a latin cardio class of course but really not specifically Zumba Fitness. If you are keen, you can check out Zumba Fitness classes at licensed locations such as California Fitness and True Fitness Gyms. But, yes - I am a licensed Zumba instructor and have various other instructor training program influences... everything comes together to provide all my students a different tailored program thats simply Pam that I hope we'd enjoy together! :) Come join and lets work out together!*

Its Azzucar's 2nd Anniversary!
Azzucar celebrated their 2nd anniversary on Saturday, 27th March 2010! Its been 2 years already! Did you know that there was a latin dance club on the 2nd floor next to the Clarke Quay central fountain above the Tent restaurant, in front of Mulligans?Well anyway, it was a successful night with a cosy group of partners, suppliers, sponsors, friends and guests of the club that was filled with their resident band, Cubania's live music, amazing close up magic by Solomon *check him out!*, bartender flaring, cake cutting, lucky draw with 7 great prizes including 2 main prizes of a $600 Body Contours Gold Spa Voucher! *lucky winners!*, a buffet spread and a casino table with baccarat & black jack sponsored by Jack Daniels!
And what was having a latin dance club when you don't go there to shake some bonbons to the reggaeton and salsa beats! Completely my type of music! Dance away!
Zuri *above* came. She is one of my fellow Zumba instructor mates and she brought her husband and friends too! And their cosy little group won 2 prizes!! What a lucky night!I emceed for the evening, spread a little joy and hope that my guests who spent the time to attend enjoyed themselves and return again soon. :) Too bad I didn't get to take pictures so many of the amazing new people I met that night but I hope everyone stays in touch!! You have my namecard! Here are pictures of my guests that I DID take pictures with... :) Like Gurmit!
Fuyoh! I was honoured that Gurmit took some time off his crazy schedule to spend the evening and join me at the Anniversary celebrations... Thank you! Hahhaa! We look waaaaaaay too cheerful here dude! This guy is hilarious... both in person and on screen...
And some friends joined the celebrations in support, night owls - Jonathen came with friends to spread some cheer... thanks for coming out "in the daylight" to join in!
Group picture with Charlie, Lisa *Azzucar's new Marketing Manager*, Gurmit and Andy.. thanks for coming guys! And whoa! These guys keep on winning at the baccarat & blackjack table! Good practice for IR - looks like its time to check it out! *ruffles coin pouch*And finally, Ze 2nd Level Team Azzucar! Hahhaa! Yes!! I am a Zumba Instructor.
Finally after some years, uncountable cardio dance classes - personal, corporate and gym clients and several instructor certifications... I finally get the opportunity to be licensed for Zumba. Imagine how ecstatic I was when I heard that I didn't need to travel out of Singapore to get my license and that it was going to be held in Singapore. I didn't need to hesitate much to get my registration and I waited impatiently in anticipation for the 19th of March to come around... and then it did.California Fitness, Level 13 Aerobic Studio Raffles Club.... 30 hours of Zumba instructor training.. spread out over 3 days till the 21st of March, with Levels 1 and 2 conducted, a total of 8 styles of merengue, cumbia, salsa, reggaeton, flamenco, tango, samba and bellydance conducted. 2 Zumba licenses achieved and a hell of alot of personal satisfaction that I've finally have my licenses.
And guess who else was the ZES aka Zumba Education Specialist? International Fitness presenter, David Velez! And of course, we would know also him as one of my main dance instructors for coming to 3 years already... other than Rashidah.
We were so busy training up with the dance techniques and running group drills, experimenting with different variations, directions, styles and music.. we really didn't have much time to capture more pictures or videos.. and below is probably the only video captured where we were going through our reggaeton stomp.Demonstration by Toby (Supa Street / Reggae Dance instructor @ Cali) and David. And that ladies and gentlemen.. is how you do your reggaeton stomp. (this VIDEO is strictly NOT available for copy or viewing anywhere else other than here on this blog, Dreaming Reality)
Oh and before I forget, turn your volume down so you won't get deaf from all our screaming... don't say I didn't warn you! :) and then we actually managed a picture, dripping waterfalls of sweat after our reggaeton set. Even my cap was soaking and dripping! Crazy! Picture with Toby and Esther!
And this deserves such a mention. I was pleased to be training side by side with a phenomenal legend... international presenter and group X superstar, Juan Carlos Ferron. You can check out his website HERE. His wealth of group dance instructing experience is impeccable and impressive. And I was completely in awe and humbled when he shared a personal method with me on really effective but simple music mapping to break down dance songs into aerobic sets to choreograph my future classes in just minutes!Amazing! And he took the Zumba program WITH us.. with his years of experience.. being a master trainer of so many other programs, he could probably show us even more distinct and intricate dance technique than what we covered but it really shows that theres really no end in a persons learning journey... but that being said.. I felt so honoured to be training with some of the best.
Speaking of the best... we also had a lady, Angeline Tion who was one of Singapore's Aerobic Champion (International Level!) who took the program too! Okay, so it was many years back but it is still an amazing achievement in itself! Who can say that they have that kind of achievement? Plus she was an aerobic instructor for over 15 years too. She was in such a peak during the Jane Fonda era and she was the main face for ... guess what?!THE GREAT SINGAPORE WORKOUT!!! You can check that out HERE.
Oh Gawd! I burst out laughing (not at her though) when she told me that because it was such a memory! Can you remember it from the early 90s?!?! And the scary thing was.. I can so remember the lyrics and even the tune.. whaahahahahaahaha!!!
Did you know that the outfit "leotard" plus white shoes were COMPULSORY for aerobic instructors back then? She told me! and I was like... "are you freaking serious?!" Damn Oh biang can?!
Singapore should have another "Great Singapore Workout" Zumba style!!! Right? How fun would that be?!
BUT was great having them in the program and you can see how humble, without ego each of them were... *hand to heart touched*
We even had 2 ladies who flew in specially for the training from Brunei! Susan and Claire! Whoa! Those two were such sweeties!! and you could tell that they really enjoyed themselves. I'm hoping to stay in touch with them too!
And I met Valerie, whos also a spin instructor at California Fitness. (*sidetrack: I look so crazy exhausted here!) She is one uber friendly chick.. it was such a pleasure getting to know her and chatting with her in between sets and after training... and finally... a picture on the 3rd day of training.. everyone severely fatigued, managed to take a picture with Ayesha who also instructs Body Combat & Zumba at Cali...Esther and Zuri! Too bad we didn't get a group shot for the whole group of level 2 participants but everything was memorable nonetheless. Thank you everyone! It was such a pleasure training with you and it was indeed filled with a little blood, a hell of alot of sweat and tears. Seriously.. some parts were damn bloody painful... *flicks tears aside & continues a body cramping cumbia hip rotation while being pressed down on the shoulders* "I don't care! I can do it! I can do iiiiit!!" *grits teeth*
So thats it for now! *Cheers*... Yes... I am officially a licensed ZUMBA instructor... Olé! *Swishes arm ala Matador style* ZUMBA!!!

DanzaFit
With Immediate Effect for those who know and attend my existing ZumFit dance cardio classes, please note that my classes are now called DanzaFit from henceforth. Please note the above ladies and gentlemen! :) Its time to... Danza.... (spanish for Dance). Adios!
Important: Please note that DanzaFit is NOT ZUMBA. Please note this. I believe that some people have been confusing it as it is also a freestyle latin mix dance class but as most of my students will know.. DanzaFit also sometimes incorporates a mixture of circuit training, resistance training, mixed dance routines and may sometimes be turned into a full Aerobic 101 class.
For those keen on ZUMBA classes in Singapore, please approach California Fitness for their classes.

Jackie Chan Returns to Zumba @ Bugis
Do what you like and you'll never have to work a day of your life again...As of late, I've been instructing a number of mass group ZumFit sessions these past weeks... some with very much larger groups than usual... they were indeed an experience that I have enjoyed each time. For those at certain gyms that I have been covering classes for lately, it has been a PLEASURE to meet you too and I'm pleased to note that some of you have been becoming some familiar faces too!
Some pictures as seen here are provided very kindly by clients who have engaged me lately. I'm always happy when my group students want to take their pictures to commemorate their session with me. :) I know there are two more pictures from 2 other sessions that are due to be sent to me soon.. I'll share those too when I get them! :)And then there are my own personal workout sessions where I participate at the Zumba classes at California Fitness.... some videos taken by other instructors/public as seen here... there's no doubt that I love having dance to compliment and support an active lifestyle... and hey! there're videos during yet another Jackie Chan appearance at Bugis last month too! The last time Jackie came for a Zumbathon.. you can find that post HERE. Dancing from that event HERE.
Jackie Chan with us doing Zumba at Bugis Junction... to one of my favourite tracks, Fuego... on the 15th of November 2009..
Doing the Bachata with David during Halloween at Novena California Fitness... and *cough* I want a Zumba tee!!... (**pouts** my group that helped out on stage that day didn't get one while all the others did... err.. whats up with that? Still not too happy about that...I'm sensing some bias-ness here... and we're regulars too! *shakes head*)
Doing the Samba at Bugis Junction under the 1pm sun.. Ok.. seriously! It was killing to be dancing under the afternoon sun, not to mention extremely quick draining.. CF management have really got to consider the welfare of the regular dance members who participate in such public demonstrations that they might actually pass out from heatstroke in such crazy heat. Thinking of having another public demonstration? If it was not in a covered area or in an airconditioned building.. I think the next turn out for such an event will be poor. Point to note eh?

Halloween 09 - Azzucar Spooky Night!
Spooky Night on 31st October came around and I spent the evening working. Yes, at a club and yes, it was Azzucar but for filming purposes. My videographers were there in full force recording what was needed for the night. While that was happening, the Marketing Manager and I made our rounds for the evening looking for Halloween Costume winners for prizes.I interchanged my gold mask for the night for some black devil horns. What was I? Well I don't know really.. I had a mask, I had golden glittery spiders running all over my body.. some blood running down blood-red lips and blood splattered around my shoulders... so I was a bloody horny masked..err.. something.. *shrug*
Above was the first prize winner in red hair... below was the 2nd prize winner and the 3rd prize winner.. she left before we could take a picture with her. :(
And some more pictures with two of the band members (in pink hair and red horns)...
And my newest girlfriend, Michelle! Priscilla introduced us one evening some weeks ago and we hit off completely! She's a riot and completely hilarious... a really fun girl. REALLY fun. And best part too, she's also an Endorphin Junkie like me but she instructs swimming and trains for triathlons! Cool eh! Triathlons! Even I'm not at that level to even want to do a Marathon... much less Triathlon!! *hugs babe!!*
And I just HAD to take a picture with these guys.. its the GHOSTBUSTERS!! ... whod'yacall?! GHOSTBUSTERS!! Err.. on duty with Heineken? .... Got ghost how?.....
