I love Gulay! *Vegetables!*

I'm rojak. For those who didn't know, I'm a mixed breed. My dad is a Singaporean Baba Chinese Dude and my mom is a Spanish Filipina babe.. hehehe.. so thus. Rojak.

Back in the 'pines, me and my sisters are the senoritas who are "mestiza" *mixed* and my mom the senora.. *aka the lady boss*

*I can hear some people now going "ooohhhh no wonder she looks like that"*

And so when I came across this Knorrs tagalog commercial over youtube, I shared it with my girls and the tune was so catchy that now we hum this together on the way to school in the mornings. Even my nephew Gareth likes watching it and he's 100% chinese.

I LOVE commercials with a song or jingle. They're not easy to create ok!

If you have a Fili. maid, show this to her! She'd love it and hey, I'm sure you could do with her humming a cheerful tune while cooking too eh!

Enjoy. Even if you don't understand it... *ahhh... reminds me of mommy back in the 'pines* Time to send her an sms to say Hi... *muse*

I love Gulay! Gulay = Vegetables! Buhay = Life.

Eric Khoo's Wrap Up Party

Pree aka Jane Doe invited me out one evening to Eric Khoo's wrap up party for an upcoming local movie called "My Magic". You can check out more details on this upcoming movie here.

You may be wondering what a wrap up party is? Well its not where we all go get wrapped up, its more to celebrate the competion of the shooting of the film.. hence; wrap up.

She acted in it as the "young wife" in the movie and even though its a small part. Its a part nonetheless! I'm so proud of her! So of course, I was pleased to attend the gathering with her.

It was a rather sit down affair with around 4 tables filled with personal friends, cast and production crew of the movie. I guess I was the only outsider there! But of course, no blushing from me! I love going to things like this.. hehehe... I didn't get a shot with Eric himself as he was playing host to almost everyone there so I've taken a shot of him here from a friendly lady named Lydia. She blogs here and I tell u, she has such amazing eyes.
She was his production manager! Kudos to that for working on an opportunity like this at such a young age! Impressive. Maybe next time, she might consider recommending me for a casting for an upcoming movie too? *Hint Hint Lydia!! Hahah I have no shame... hehehe*

So of course there was food! I love hotel pastries but I couldn't eat them of course so I stopped Pree from eating hers above till I finished taking pictures of it. *Droollss* Strawberry tarts look super delicious....

And Pppffffftt! Here's Pree's plate.. she eats so little lah and she couldn't even finish THIS plate...
I attacked the fruits and when I went back, CJ went "OMG! U had Kiwi!!! CARBS LAH U" *smacks my forehead* Damn... :( Mistake. *wails*

There were alot of other food there and the spread was not all that bad, nasi lemak and other carb filled dishes. I tried to take what I could but I still had to eat my crystal prawn har-gao WITHOUT the skin... attempting to eat my siew-mai with minimal skin and everything else... *chomp chomp chomp!*.... yummy...

So the main actor was actually Francis aka Bosco the magician aka Singapore's original fire eater. With our table encouraging him to share some magic tricks to entertain us for the night, he conceded and showed us a little one that had everyone go, oooooohhhh....
It wasn't magic, it was more of understanding physics and equilibrium. He attached a fork and spoon together, placed a toothpick in one of the fork's tooth and balanced the little "invention" off a rim of a glass... It looked pretty amazing and immediately everyone said "lets try" and try we did... a little less than 10 mins later and a few forks and spoons crashing onto the table... we did it.. heheh * I did it on my first try!! not bad eh!*
Soon enough, the whole table was filled with floating forks and spoons, much to our amazement and we had to bring Francis back to show him how proud we were to achieve it hahaha.. next time, when I'm bored at wedding dinners.. I know what to do!

And of course, only Eric Khoo could be the only one who can actually bring HIS DOGGIE into the hotel and allow it to frolick around with all the girls going goo goo gaa gaa over its furry little body...

Thanks for the invite Jane Doe... :)
It was a pleasant evening at the Goodwood Park Hotel.

I like Braised Pig Trotters, Don't you?

Along Chinatown's Food Street, there is a stall that sells really good braised Pig Trotters. Apart from being cooked as a confinement dish, pig trotters on any other occasion is a sinful treat for the "heart". *think cholesterol ah!*

When we walked past, I couldn't help but exclaim really loudly and go "wahhhhhh!! look at that pot of pig trotters!!!!" and happily skipped towards it. I guess the excitement in me so obvious that when I asked if I could take photos (Hhhee, I always ask ok! It gives me better standing position to take a better shot).

The two owners gladly gave me their permission "ke yi ke yi! *can can!*" and even stepped out of the way as I snapped away. But not before we ordered a large serving from this huge pot. *Drools* Look at all that fat!! And that sauce.. is heavenly on rice.

Surprisingly, their original specialty was fishball noodles! How come so much pork around? Nevermind.. still good. So the stall is called Ming Fa Fishball stall along Food Street in Chinatown and run by 2 uncles.

There's the uncle hard at work... I still had to keep the pig trotters in view. It was sooo appealing.. hahahaha...

So how much does it cost? It depends on the size. From $5 to $8 and more! Choose a trotter and get him to quote you on the price before he chops it up!
I'm sure eating it freshly prepared there would have been better but we packed our serving home for dinner instead. It was still REALLY GOOD! So this is another 5 chopstick out of 5 chopstick rating. Die die must try! For pig trotter lovers... *slllurp!*

And see all that pork belly! *faints* So Sinful... so good... *wipe drool*

Caffelicious at Carrefour

Ok... so I forgot to take a picture of my cappucinno when it was still full. Hahah.. so I settled for taking it once I finished it all. And finished it, I did. It was really good.

I like shopping at Carrefour. But after a while, the walking gets tiring and the throat starts to parch. We strolled towards the bread section only to be stopped by a man hollaring, Coffee! Coffee!! ... Coffee sounded good at that time so we sat down and gave him free rein to serve us what he thought was good.

Cappuccino? Yes please and 2 servings were churned out for our afternoon pleasure.
We were pleased to note a very well fluffed and tasty foam on our coffee, just the way a cappuccino should be. Mmmmmmm....

Right beside us was Bengawan Solo and we were encouraged to purchase some "kuih kuihs" which we did... *btw this was still in November- Carb break so Kuihs were not off limits, incase you were wondering* so we had a couple of gooey kuihs, a great cup of coffee and a pretty entertaining "host" in our barista too! What a pleasant afternoon!

They have all kinds of coffee there and they're cheap too! (Compared to Starbucks or Coffeebean lah!) Good for a caffeine kick in the middle of shopping.

We spent at least 45 minutes there just people watching, eating our kuihs and talking to our barista who, we found was named Gabriel.

It was a nice cosy corner and when I shyly asked if we could take a photo behind the counter, he was more than pleased to pose too and show me a little around the coffee making equipment... oooohhh....

So next time you're at Carrefour at Suntec and have a caffeine craving, pop by and look for Gabriel, grab some kuihs, revel in the aromas of the bakery next door and enjoy your day.
We'll be back soon Gabriel... soon. :)

First Cousins

First Cousins. One day, Lauren and Gareth will look back and wonder how small they once were...and Gawk!

While Lauren hasn't hit pre-teens yet, the obvious generation gap won't be so obvious so they still can play together. Till then, play away and enjoy your childhood sweethearts....

Lauren's 7th Birthday

Since I finally managed to get Eirian's Birthday pictures up, here's Lauren's party the month before that on the 15th of November 2007. She turned 7 and we held the party at the Berri Werks Play Yard. Another birthday post by moley can be found here.

She invited her classmates and friends of which a good handful *around 40 people* came to join in the fun, played alot of VERY noisy games, ate the food I COOKED. *Ok, mostly cooked by me...*, took alot of goodybags, played with bubbles, stuffed themselves silly with Birthday cupcakes, popped balloons, won prizes, twisted balloons, had some face painting and glitter tattoos done on them and literally trashed the place.. all the name of enjoyment. The post party cleanup was a little bit if a nightmare! Hahahahha....

It literally took us 2 days to prepare all this, from buying all the ingredients to cooking the night before and frying up all the little bits the morning itself!

Her birthday cupcakes are sponsored lovingly by her Koh Koh Serene and Uncle Mark. A total of 40 chocolate pink cupcakes in all baked by Cupcake Momma!

Very. Very pretty cupcakes! Very well recieved too!

So we had sausage octopuses... and chicken nuggets...

We fried up fresh fishballs *point to note, next time must buy those frozen kinds better, these literally deflated and became wrinkly ole feeeshballs by the time the party started*

Quail eggs! The children's favourite!

Special shaped Agar Agar! All this were snapped up quickly too! Jeeeehhhlleeeee!! My mom in law helped to make these.. she makes the best jelly!!!

And of course, even more jelleee!!! I love Jelly!

Roasted Chicken wings...we brought along a small pack and bam! all gone too!

Amosco has great thaw & serve pastries but they come in HUGE quantities but they're so cheap! So if you're holding a party for at least 40 people.. the mini chocolate eclairs are just HEAVENLY... and the mini strawberry rolls are not that bad either.

Of course, a party needs some extra sugary gummies...
Perhaps a little caramel popcorn....

A giant serving of cheesy pasta bolognaise... I made an insane amount of pasta for this party.

Yum *droolls* I love pasta bolognaise....

And of course the best side dish to my pasta would be... cheesy potato salad topped with bacon bits!... *saliva pooling on my keyboard......*

And for those who don't know, I also come multi talented not only as mom aka emcee aka host amongst others. I am also a face painter, a balloon artist and a glitter tatooist. So if you're keen on having something for your child's birthday party, you're welcome to hire me or one of my talents. You can email me at honeymeow@gmail.com to check for our availability! But before you do so, please note that 1st hour is charged at a min. $150 and subsquent hours are $80-100 per hour thereafter and I want a piece of birthday cake too! hahahaha...

Glitter tattooos!!! Always a hit with the girls at any party.. and the moms too!

The little mountain of giant goodybags for all the party participants and the shelf of prizes too!

Happy 7th Birthday Lau Lau!!!.... You're growing up so fast... I hope you enjoyed your day.
Love,
Mommy

An Enchanted 5th Birthday....

My little girl turned 5 on the 17th of December 2007 and it was an Enchanted movie birthday for her and some friends.

We started the day heading towards Vivocity to meet the gang and catch Disney's Enchanted. It was the perfect show for Eirian as it had the whole mix of princess, fairytale, talking animals, dragons and catchy songs.

We invited a very select few, Diana aka Molemole with Shervon and Tristen, Sandra aka Twerp with Ian *his brother Kegan couldn't make it, he was sick! What a pity*, Wendy aka Arkerchi with Ashlyn and Averlyn, my mom in law and my sis in law with Gareth. All of which came to make the day extra special!

Here I am, on the way to Vivo with my very first pair of false eyelashes.. not a bad attempt for a first timer!

We headed to Golden Village, bought everyone tickets in the middle row. CJ loaded the kids with lollipops and candy canes while I went off to buy the bags of popcorn, nachos and drinks.

After the show, everyone headed to Harbourfront for McDonalds Happy meals! We requested for balloons too!

Here's Wendy with Aver having some home made food...yummy... it was Wendy's first time bringing both girls out alone and she did such a great job handling them! :)

Here's Lauren and Ian enjoying their happy meal. It so happens that Sandra *Ian's Mommy* and I were pregnant together for BOTH pregnancies. I had 2 girls and she had 2 boys. Her boys are both 2 weeks older than my girls respectively so all 4 of these kids literally grew up knowing eachother pretty much from birth and there they are now! Turning 8 this year! Damn!! *I'm getting old*

And Eirian, the birthday girl posing with her new friend, Ashlyn.

My momma in law, Cat.. with my sister in law Serene and Gareth!...

And of course how do you have a birthday party without the daddy! CJ... attempting to pose with a french fry.

And fried carbo... *droools* Must resist, must resist... who can resist crispy hot french fries!! Me!! *faint* (Attempting to sniff and lick the computer screen)

We all then headed to Breadtalk to grab a cake and Eirian chose a strawberry vanilla snowman cake. It was SO DELICIOUS!!! ... I never knew Breadtalk's cakes were good. THIS was good.

We then hijacked a table at the Waterplay area, battled against winds to light the birthday candles and gave her our heartiest Happy Birthday Song. Ate the cakes. Briefed the kids NOT to run along the water and away they went!

One last pose before they all headed into the water fountain for some water play. Whooppeee!!!
After about an hour of water play and with dry clothes on, everyone split up to make their way home or out for the evening while we lingered a little longer, pressing our little itchy fingers on the toys at Toys R Us.
Then it was dinner time! Off we went to a Japanese restaurant where we stuffed Eirian silly with her favourite sushi... and Ebi Tempura... Yumm.....*Drools.. I love California sushi too!*

And a final family shot with my momma in law and her 3 grand children... What a day.. and Happy Birthday Sweetheart... Mommy and Daddy loves u deep deep! ~
